24th Sept 2011 Visited the Museum & Art gallery in Derby today there were some interesting exhibitions and techniques being used by artists Kate Smith, Jo Berry & Jayne Falconer. http://www.derby.gov.uk/LeisureCulture/MuseumsGalleries/Derby_Museum_and_Art_Gallery.htm
The interactive Traces of being by Kate Smith was quite interesting inviting viewers to leave their own mark on various plaques on the wall and paper on the floor with whatever you have to hand. I pulled off a chunk of the sponge rectangle we were invited to make marks on, which I am going to use to create marks on my textured plates for printing. She also had wooden blocks, paper & soft stone and a mirror to mark on too. We all leave traces behind us in our daily lives hair, footprints, written words to name a few which we are not really aware of doing so it was an interesting concept.
"Jo Berry’s visually stunning series of colourful digital drawings and lightboxes
promotes the connection between Art and Science and celebrates the human body
and the use of new technology."
Came home full of inspiration, can`t wait to get into my studio for Insight tomorrow.
