The "Treasures in our midst" exhibition went really well, the PCC (Parochial church council) were very obliging and welcomed us in to the space and gave us free rein to use whatever we wanted which is amazing and now I know there was so much more we could have done....next time !!!
It would have been nice to have had more people there over the weekend but people lead busy lives and some were unsure about what exactly was going on at the Church too. Someone commented that the information put out about the preview night made it sound exclusive and by invitation only so they did not attend, something to consider next time.
Friday night was good as the darkness added to the whole ambience of the candlelit Church which made Sue Riemer and Barrie Hughes sound installations even more effective. They both worked well but consideration of the closeness of sounds needs to be carefully thought through. Projection of light is also something to work with next time. People enjoyed seeing the church used in a different manner and were very receptive to the idea of the Church being open for the community to see and share the beautiful space without any expectations being placed upon them, they could take time to view the art work within it and the natural beauty surrounding it. There was a warm atmosphere created just by people of all ages being there sharing in this experience, the air had a sense of curiosity and exploration within it and people were so interested in the concepts behind some of the work.
I love this film of Ada who loved my interactive water feature devised to collect donations so much she went home and came back with bags of coppers to have another go it was great to watch and was a hit with kids of ALL ages .
Feedback has been very positive and enthusiasm for another exhibition has been fuelled it is great that everyone was so receptive and involved in the whole weekend bringing friends and family back with them to view it again. We also invited the bell ringers to come and show us there talent which surprised and confused the villagers as they are only rung at weddings usually it was great to watch them in action.
